WREXHAM’S PAPER CUP FIRM ‘MOVING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH’

One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of paper cups has been visited by local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths after gaining Welsh Government support.

Based on the Gresford Industrial Estate and employing 145 members of staff, Benders specialises in manufacturing a wide range of quality paper cups for major clients including Greggs, Mars and Nestle.

The company has utilised Welsh Government support for apprenticeships and human resource training purposes. They also received a £100,000 grant for machinery improvements.

Driven by the influence of high street coffee house culture, in recent years, the demand for paper cups has increased significantly, with the company now producing 900 million paper cups every year. As a result, Benders are actively seeking to develop and expand the business.

Promoting sustainability is key for Benders and the company can demonstrate the highest quality standards and environmental credentials across their product range. All cups are manufactured using paperboard from PEFC-accredited, sustainably managed forests. Every cup comes with full Chain of Custody accreditation and can be traced back to the forest where it was originally harvested.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said: “Technological expertise in their field, coupled with their commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability have made Benders one of their industry’s market-leaders in the UK.”

“It is an example of yet another local company receiving Welsh Government support to enable them to grow, and it is also pleasing the business is looking to expand and develop further.”
